CloneZilla Live 3.2.1-9 Stable

Losing critical data due to a hard drive failure or a major system crash can be devastating. Fortunately, advanced backup and recovery tools exist to prevent such disasters, and Clonezilla is one of the most reliable options available.

Efficient Backup and Restoration for Disks and Partitions

Designed as a cost-effective alternative to premium disk cloning software, Clonezilla enables users to create full backups of entire hard drives or specific partitions. In the event of a failure, Clonezilla allows you to restore your data seamlessly using previously created disk or partition images.

The software offers two download formats:

  • ISO package – for creating bootable CDs/DVDs or PXE servers
  • ZIP package – for bootable USB drives or external hard disks

Setting up Clonezilla is straightforward, though you may need an additional tool like Tuxboot, LinuxLive USB Creator, or Rufus to create a bootable disk. Advanced users also have the option of setting it up manually.

Creating Bootable Disks and Backing Up Your System

Once you boot from the Clonezilla media, you’ll be presented with a menu to select Clonezilla Live running mode and perform memory tests. As you proceed, you’ll configure console settings, including keymap preferences.

Clonezilla provides two core functions:

  1. Restore a disk or partition using a previously saved image
  2. Create a new backup by cloning a disk or partition

First-time users will need to generate an image, which can be stored in various locations, including:

  • Local or external drives
  • Network storage options (SSH, Samba, NFS, WebDAV, AWS S3, OpenStack Swift)
  • Local system memory (/home/partimag/) – though this is not recommended unless you are fully aware of the risks involved

For experienced users, Clonezilla offers advanced configuration options, allowing further customization and fine-tuning of backup and restoration processes.

Once the disk or partition image is created, you have several options: enter the command line prompt, recolor: #494949; font-family: Lato; font-size: 17px; Clonezilla, shut down your computer, or reboot into your host operating system.

A Robust Safety Net for Your Data

Clonezilla provides a secure way to clone disks and partitions, allowing you to store backups on your preferred storage device.

While it lacks a graphical Windows interface with step-by-step wizards, Clonezilla remains a powerful and efficient tool for creating disk and partition backups, ensuring your files remain intact in case of a system failure.
